New Delhi
By Our Staff Reporter
According to the police, the Operation Cell was working on a tip-off about pickpockets active in buses plying through North Delhi. They were normally targeting buses stopping over the ISBT flyover. A team under the supervision of ACP L.S. Brar kept an eye on the place. On Tuesday afternoon, the team heard one person, who was surrounded by others, shouting for help on the ISBT flyover. All those surrounding him were caught. The person, Ved Prakash, told the police that those surrounding him first tried to pick his pocket in the bus which he had boarded from Shahdara. When he resisted, one of the accused, Amit, whipped out a knife and asked him to keep quiet. The other accused surrounded him and tried to snatch his briefcase. When he did not part with the briefcase, the accused pulled him out of the bus which had slowed down due to the rush. He then shouted for help and the police personnel reached the spot. According to the police, the accused -- identified as Ram Babu, a registered bad character of Kalyanpuri police station and the gang leader, Amit, an externee, Devi Singh, Rakesh, Rajan, Mahesh and Pappu -- were active in buses plying between Kalyanpuri and ISBT.
