All-India tourney from July 1

MUMBAI June 26. The glass-back squash courts of Otters Club will resound with hustle and bustle of activity when the Herald Maritime Services squash Open 2003 gets underway from July 1.

Organised by the Indian Squash Professionals (ISP) under the aegis of Squash Racquets Federation of India (SRFI) and Squash Racquets Association of Maharashtra (SRAM), the all-India event offers staggering sums as prize money. Entries received so far from all over total 224 including attractions like India's pro Ritwik Bhattacharya, young sensation Saurav Ghosal and women's National champion Mekhala Subedar.

The men's singles champion will gain an awesome Rs. 75,000, a category in which India's leading pro Bhattacharya is the top seed, followed by Ghoshal in the second spot.

The boys' under-19 winner will take home Rs. 50,000, with Gaurav Nandrajog given the top billing. The women's champion will get richer by Rs. 30,000 where Mekhala is the player to beat.

The seedings: Men: 1. Ritwik Bhattacharya (Delhi), 2. Saurav Ghoshal (Chennai), 3. Supreet Singh (Mumbai), 4. Amjad Khan (Dhampur). Women: Mekhala Subedar (Deolali), Deepali Anvekar (Mumbai), Priyanka Yadav (Mumbai), Rachita Vora (Mumbai). Boys under-19: Gaurav Nandrajog (Delhi), Sahil Vora (Mumbai), Vivian Rahmanan (Singapore), Vikas Jangra (Jindal).
