Mr. Gupta exhorted the Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs) to be more alert and responsible. He spoke of various schemes by the police for protection of older persons like identification of senior citizens and emphasis on safety measures like neighbourhood distress alarm. He also informed that in many areas the beat constable was visiting old people's homes regularly to ensure their well-being. On the occasion, the Director-general of HelpAge India, Inderjit S. Dhillon, said they have been conducting workshops for the past three years with the Delhi Police to make them aware of specials needs of elderly citizens. Ms. Pappu, in her address, stressed the need to inculcate the right values among the youth so that the elderly get their rightful place in society.
