The State Government's Public Relations Department has issued a "clarification'' on the June 21 report in these columns, "Four starvation deaths in M.P. Village: Panel'', saying that the report was based on statements made by BJP leaders and was contrary to facts. Asserting that there had not been any starvation death in Musredichak village, the State Government statement goes on to add, "It is not true that there have been 10 deaths in the village within one month.'' As per official information since January this year, only five persons had died in Musredichak village. Of these, three had died of old age whereas a five-year- old child and a 30-year-old woman had died of illness, the State Government asserted. However, the Government clarification runs contrary to another statement issued by the Guna district office of the Public Relations Department on June 12. The earlier official statement, quoting the district Chief Medical Officer, said "ten persons had died at Musredichak in the last one month. Five of these persons had died of old age and the remaining five deaths were caused by viral fever.''
