CPI welcomes Sino-Indian declaration

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 25. The Communist Party of India today welcomed the Sino-Indian joint declaration and said it always held the opinion that hostility between the "two great neighbours was never sustainable.''

"The joint declaration has rightly recognised this fact and Vajpayee's visit has carried forward the process of normalisation of relations,' the CPI Central Secretariat said in a statement here. It said irrespective of the social system and governments, the good neighbourly relations between India and China would go a long way in consolidating peace and stability in the region. The party said it would also open new vistas for the development and close economic cooperation between countries of Asia as well as the entire developing world. The emphasis on coordinating the activities in WTO and other international fora will generate conducive atmosphere for a multi-polar world, it said.
