Touchtel announces new tariff plans

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI JUNE 25. Touchtel has announced the combination tariffs for Zipnet DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) for residential and SOHO (small office home office).

Addressing press conference here today, K. Krishnan, Chief Executive Officer of Bharati Telenet Limited (South), said the high speed Zipnet DSL facility bundled with voice benefits would be available at three levels: Rs. 950 per month (including 600 free voice pulses), Rs. 1,300 per month (including local calls as low as 25 paise) and Rs. 1,850 per month (including 1800 free voice pulses). The plan was aimed to fulfil the high speed Internet surfing needs as well as the voice needs of subscribers. The plans had been developed after assessing the varying Internet surfing and voice usage patterns of customers, he said.

Mr. Krishnan said the combo plans contain a strong voice benefit to customers ranging from 600 to 1800 free voice calls, rates as low as Re. 1 per pulse and attractive discounts on incoming calls. Apart from this, the customers would have to pay Rs. 1.50 for 3 minutes in the daytime and 75 paise for three minutes in the nighttime - both of which were similar to current usage costs being paid for dial-up access. (Dial-up access costs Rs. 24 per hour for phone charges and Rs. 8-10 per hour as ISP charges) A one-time registration charge of Rs. 1,000 was chargeable for the services.

The President of Bharti Infotel, Badri Agarwal, said with these tariff plans, the customer could get maximum speed of 128 kbps with burst speed of up to 192 kbps.
