Coop. bank plans Rs. 264-cr. credit disbursal

ALAPPUZHA JUNE 25. The Alappuzha District Cooperative Bank plans to distribute Rs. 264 crores in the district in the year 2003-04 as loans, said the bank president, Nalanda Gopalakrishnan Nair, and directors at a press conference here today.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan Nair said the bank had charted out various innovative loan schemes for the public after the new committee took charge. The bank also plans to rejuvenate the cooperative movement in the district and aid the growth of the agricultural sector. The bank would give 1 per cent additional interest to the deposits of senior citizens, he added.

On the modernisation of the bank, he said all the 35 branches of the bank in the district would be computerised this year. A new recovery cell has been formed to reduce the non-performing assets, the bank president said.

The various loans available to customers from the bank include consumer loans, education loans, housing loans, loan for treatment, vehicle loans, professional loans and loans for buying property. The bank has provision to provide up to Rs. 2 lakhs as loan for buying consumer items, noted Mr Gopalakrishnan Nair. The maximum amount provided as housing loan by the bank is Rs. 10 lakhs. The repayment period of the loan is up to 15 years. The maximum limit for vehicle loan is up to Rs. 10 lakhs for which the repayment period is from five to seven years, said Mr. Gopalakrishnan Nair. The president announced that the 49th annual general body meeting of the bank would be held at 10.30 a.m. on June 29 at the Alappuzha Municipal Town Hall.
