Mr. Ahmed told presspersons here that the foundation stone for the Rs. 35-lakh truck terminal in Chikmagalur would be laid soon. A sum of Rs. 20 lakh had already been sanctioned for the project. He said Rs. 1.5 crore would be required to lay distribution lines to new extensions for supply of water from the Yagachi Project, and added that the project would be completed with the help of local bodies within a year. The Minister said a Rs. 20-lakh proposal would be submitted to the Slum Clearance Board for providing basic amenities in slums in Chikmagalur. Officials had been directed to conduct a survey in the Lendi Thalab slum, and provide alternative sites to the slum dwellers. H said the municipal president had been asked to take steps to curb the stray pig menace in the city. K.M. Road would be repaired after the Department of Technology submitted the relevant report, he said. While inspecting the progress of construction of a 60-ft road that would link all roads leading to Mallandur and Tarikere, the Minister instructed engineers of the Chikmagalur Urban Development Authority (CUDA) to prepare a blueprint for the construction of a private bus stand on a plot owned by the Urban Development Authority at Gowri Kaluve Extension. He said encroachers on this land should be evicted. Mr. Ahmed announced that Mr. Krishna would visit Chikmagalur District in the first week of July to inaugurate various development works including a drinking water project, a hospital, and Ambedkar Bhavan. He said the Government had approved a Rs. 1.37-crore project for the overall development of Basavanahalli Tank. The Minister said the visiting committee of the General Hospital here would be reconstituted to streamline the administration of the hospital. Transfer of doctors and nurses accused of negligence in a snake-bite case was in progress, and a case had been registered against the erring doctors.
