Passers-by nab fleeing youth after chase

BANGALORE JUNE 19. Passers-by chased and nabbed a youth who along with an accomplice snatched a gold chain from a woman in Vijayanagar on Wednesday.

Police said that the two snatched a gold chain worth Rs.10,000 from Manjula of 5th Block, Rajajinagar, on a service road in RPC Layout at 8 p.m.

When Manjula raised an alarm, the passers-by chased the youth and caught one of them, Vasu (22) of Hosaguddadhahalli, near Attiguppe. He was handed over to Chandra Layout Police who recovered the gold chain and a knife from him. A search is on for Vasu's associate.

Arrested

Wilson Garden Police have arrested Ganesh, alias Gani, (26) who allegedly murdered Vijay Kumar Reddy (27) at Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh on June 15.

According to police, Ganesh, who is a rowdy-sheeter in Madanapalli, allegedly hit Reddy on the head with an iron pipe and killed him. He fled to Bangalore on Reddy's moped.

Suicide

Banu (16) hanged herself to death with a sari at her house in Jayabharathnagar in Banaswadi Police limits on Wednesday.

Police said that she had not done well in the SSLC supplementary examination on Wednesday and therefore ended her life. Banu was the daughter of Venkatesh, an autorickshaw driver.

Leelavathi (22) hanged herself to death with a sari at her house in VB Layout in Krishnarajapuram Police limits on Wednesday. She married Srinivasan, a Revenue Department employee, about two years ago against her parents' wishes.

When she went to her parents' house in Koramangala on Wednesday she was reportedly not treated well by them and was thus upset, police said.

Man found murdered

A hotel worker was found murdered in a gutter after an unsuccessful bid by a gang to commit theft in a hotel in Kalasipalyam Police limits on Tuesday.

Police gave the name of the victim as Manjunath (45) of Sri Rama Darshini on Kalasipalyam Main Road. He was a native of Holenarasipur in Hassan District.

According to police, Manjunath used to sleep in front of the hotel regularly but was not found by fellow workers on Wednesday. When they searched for him, they found bloodstains on the road. When they followed the lead, they found the body in the gutter. The head was covered with a gunny bag. Manjunath was strangled to death with a copper cable.

Police said the thieves had tried to enter the hotel by opening the glass doors.

Kalasipalyam Police have registered a case.
