Fake currency racket busted

HYDERABAD June 19. A fake currency racket was busted with the arrest of eight persons by the Golconda police on Thursday. An amount of Rs. 23.75 lakhs was recovered from a hotel room in Secunderabad, apart from fake notes amounting to Rs. 1.29 crores in Rs. 500, Rs. 100 and Rs. 50 denominations.

A press release said nine persons ganged up under the leadership of Mannar Khandi Vasu (46) and began making fake currency notes, using a computer, scanners and colour printers.

The accused persons were A. Anjaneya Murthy (44), M. Srinivas (22), P. Vijayakumar (35), C. Venkateshwara Rao (32), Rajesh Das (48), S. Akka Rao (38), V. Satyanarayana (23) and V. Ganesh (31), all residents of West Godavari and Krishna districts. They were said to have served prison term several times.

Recently, Vasu was released on bail and came to the city. Having settled in Sun Lodge, he got the others together and started circulating fake currency notes. The case was taken up by T. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Inspector, Golconda, assisted by Masthan Rao and Anwar Baig, SIs.

Held for bursting crackers

The Nampally police arrested J. Ramakrishna of R.K. Creations, an event management company, for bursting crackers at an event and endangering the lives of the audience at Lalitha Kala Thoranam on June 7.

According to a press release, the event was held in connection with the sale of two lakh Bajaj Pulsar motorcycles. The bursting crackers fell onto the seats, sending the audience running helter-skelter.

Mr. Ramakrishna was arrested under Section 336 of the Indian Penal Code for endangering life of people. He has been sent to judicial custody.
