Held on charge of kidnapping woman

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM June 19. A 43-year-old self-styled temple priest has been arrested by the police on the charge of kidnapping and sexually abusing a 26- year-old woman from Mukkola under the Vizhinjam Police Station limits.

According to the police, the accused, Jayakumar alias Vincent (43), a resident of Kulathur village, convinced the woman that her husband would not survive if certain poojas were not performed.

A man missing complaint was registered by the woman's family members after she was went missing since June 11.

A police team led by the Circle Inspector, Harish Kumar, and the Sub Inspector, R. Purushothaman Pannicker, traced her and Jayakumar from Vellarada and arrested the fraudster.

According to police, Jayakumar has confessed that he had kidnapped seven women and sexually abused them. His modus operandi was to sexually abuse his victims on the pretext of curing ailments, which they were suffering from.

The accused was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate and remanded to 15 days' judicial custody.
