Religions in dialogue

Sir, — This refers to the article, "Religions in dialogue", by Mushirul Hasan ( June 17 ). It is true that interfaith debates among different religions are the need of the hour. Muslims, especially, should come forward because the Koran asks them to invite non-Muslims for dialogue on common issues. The debates and dialogues will surely bring communal harmony and better understanding between the two communities.

Sir, — All religions preach only goodness and aim at raising the individual to divinity. In this sense, they are all equal and no religion is greater than the other. Mr. Hasan has aptly quoted poet Mirza Ghalib who said that a country's special customs must be preserved. Such preservation is possible only if all customs are respected and not sought to be effaced by converting people of one faith to the other. There will be peace if people engaged in propagating religion take to their heart these sterling observations and act accordingly.
