College principal shot at; son-in-law kills himself

BANGALORE June 8. The Principal of Seshadripuram College, Venkataraju, was shot at by his son-in-law, N.Mahesh, who later threw himself off the Barton Centre on Mahatma Gandhi Road here on Saturday. Mahesh (33) was married to V.Rashmi, IAS officer.

Mahesh, an electronics engineer, was the son of N.A.Narayanaswamy, retired Superin- tendent of Bowring Hospital.

Ms. Rashmi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Mysore Zilla Panchayat, has filed a complaint of harassment for dowry and attempt to murder against her late husband with the Jayanagar Police. She has alleged that Mahesh was in illegal possession of arms, according to police.

Police said Mahesh committed suicide after a domestic quarrel.

Mahesh's family said that his unemployment might have triggered the domestic strife. He tried to go the U.S. for his education, Mr. Narayanaswamy said.

Mr. Venkataraju is admitted to hospital.
