5 killed in bus-mini lorry collision

PUDUKKOTTAI JUNE 8. Five youths were killed when the mini-lorry in which they were travelling collided with a State Transport Corporation bus at Kalamavur near here early this morning.

M. Devanesan (22) of Lakshmanapatti, Ignacimuthu (22) of Kolathur, B. Raja (15) and K. Balasubramanian (13) both of Keeranur and the mini-lorry driver, Kumar of Paramathi Velur were killed on the spot. The mini-lorry was proceeding to Pudukkottai, and the TNSTC bus to Tiruchi from Rameshwaram.

The mishap occurred when the mini-lorry tried to overtake another lorry. None of the bus passengers suffered serious injury.

10 injured

Our Tuticorin Staff Reporter reports

Ten persons were injured when a government bus collided head on with a lorry near Vallanad shooting range today. Seven bus passengers were injured, the police sources said.

The bus was on its way from Tirunelveli to Tuticorin, while the lorry was heading to Thalayathu from Tuticorin.

The bus driver, conductor and the lorry cleaner also sustained injuries. The injured were taken to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.

The Murappanadu police have registered a case.
