Shops closed in Nasik

Nasik June 8. Commercial establishments in the City, Nasik Road, and Vihitgaon areas remained closed today due to the "Nasik bandh" called by the Opposition Shiv Sena-BJP to protest the series of murders in the city, including the killing of five members of a family at Belatgavhan-Shivar near here, two days back.

The Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Minister of State for Home, Rajendra Darda, airdashed here today and visited the area where Trimbak Eknath Satote, his two sons, a daughter and a guest were killed by a six-member-gang. A woman and her young son were also injured in the incident and were being treated.

Meanwhile, Special IG Aurangabad, P. T. Lohar, has been transferred to Nasik as new city police commissioner replacing Prakash Pawar.

Mr. Bhujbal announced a financial aid of Rs. 1.75 lakhs to the next of the kin of Satote family after visiting the hospital to inquire about the health of the injured.

He said the Mumbai police had been asked to assist the city police probing the murder of Vikumal Shroff, the Dubai-based businessman, shot dead by two unidentified persons on Lam Road, as the killers might be from outside. Police protection had been provided to Shroff's relatives in the metropolis, Mr. Bhujbal added.
