This Day That Age
S. Barnes, the former Australian Test cricketer, in England to cover for the press the Australian tour, made a suggestion that could put an end to much controversy as to when the umpires can decide that light was not sufficient for play to start or continue. Barnes wanted umpires to use a light meter, of the type used a lot in photography, and thus scientifically come to a conclusion regarding prevailing light. Though some felt this was a sensation being created by Barnes, the game's supreme body, the M.C.C. appeared inclined to consider the suggestion.
