Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
Mr. Anbalagan distributed copies of resolutions passed at the meeting to presspersons here. The meeting claimed that sustained and stern measures taken by the Tamil Nadu Government had dismantled the activities of the banned outfits in that State. But the members of these outfits and mercenaries were using Pondicherry as a hideout, it alleged. Hence, the Pondicherry Government should set up check posts on the borders to prevent entry of culprits into the Union Territory. The police should be provided with modern gadgets and vehicles. It charged the Congress Government with having failed the people on various counts. No steps had been taken up to relieve fishermen, SC/STs and unemployed youth of their woes. The AIADMK would soon hold a demonstration to focus the `failure of the Congress Ministry' in addressing the problems of the weaker sections. The meeting condemned the delay in imposing a ban on cabaret dance in hotels. Despite an assurance given on the floor of the Assembly recently, nothing had been done so far. The meeting was addressed by the Law, Electricity and Science and Technology Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayakumar. The Minister distributed benefits sponsored by the party saris to 500 old-aged women, sewing machines to 30 poor girls, educational assistance of Rs. 2,500 each to 30 students and tricycles to handicapped persons. A. Kasilingam, MLA and former Welfare Minister, spoke.
