Plus-Two: residence certificate rule modified

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry June 7. The Director of Education, G. Theva Needhi Dhas, said here on Friday that candidates seeking admission for Plus-Two in government schools need not have to attach residence certificates if they studied continuously for five years preceding the date of application in a government school or in a school recognised by the government. This is applicable for nativity certificate also.

Mr. Dhas said the modification was effected in consultation with the Revenue department. If a student had not studied continuously for five years preceding the date of application the residence certificate testifying to five-year period of residence of parents should be presented.

As the transfer certificate of the students would carry particulars of the nationality, there was no need for students to attach separate nationality certificate with the applications, the Director said.

The Department of Education had also introduced a new system in respect of caste certificates required for processing of applications for the Plus-Two. The educational institutions should accept true copy of the certificates relating to the SC or the Other Backward Class candidates issued after 2001 as the issue of such certificates was a one-time process.

However, students should produce the original copies of these certificates at the time of admission and after verification the original copies would be returned to them.
