MPs ask PM for probe
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI
June 7.
A group of Members of Parliament has urged the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, to institute a CBI probe into the functioning of the ICAR's Indian Agricultural Statistical Research Institute.
In a joint letter to Mr. Vajpayee, the MPs, led by A. Vijayaraghavan and A.K. Premajam, said there were large number of complaints of corruption, nepotism and other financial and administrative irregularities against the Director and other officials of the institute.
They complained that though the employees of the institute had been repeatedly seeking inquiries by the Central Vigilance Commission, no independent inquiry had been conducted so far.
