Narrow road chokes Warasiguda residents

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD May 25. For the residents of Warasiguda the scheduled launch of the Multi-Modal Transport System on the Independence Day maybe a good augury but their problems seem to be far from over.

Though the aesthetically designed Arts College station is coming up nearby, the parallel road to it going from Boudhanagar to Warasiguda is highly congested for vehicular movement with maximum width not exceeding 25 ft across the entire stretch. Locals complain that during peak hours when the traffic is heavy it is next to impossible to walk on the road. The lack of pavements on either side of the road or even zebra crossings has made life difficult for residents, especially elderly persons, women and children. ``We have taken up the matter with the MCH authorities and they have informed us that the road will be widened. But so far, very little has been done. Will they wake up only if there is some major accident?'' N. Ramakrishnan, a senior citizen, asks.

While the locals are pleased being connected on the MMTS route with the station getting spruced up at a considerable pace, some of them are sore that the road under bridge beneath the station has become a bottleneck to the already choked main road.

According to a senior MCH official, the road would be widened and final inspections would be completed soon.
