With four rounds remaining, the fourth seed Arun is followed half-a-point behind in the boys' event by second-seeded Deep Sengupta of Jharkand, the third seed Akshayraj Kore of Maharashtra and fifth-seeded Rahul Sangma of GNCA. In the girls' event too, three players, second-seeded Krutika Nadig of Maharashtra, the eighth seed N. Raghavi and P.K. Jayashree, both of Tamil Nadu, are in the joint second position, half-a-point behind the top seed Mary. Chennai-based Arun, playing in his last sub-junior event, won in 45 moves, with black pieces against D. Sai Srinivas. In a Sicilian Najdorf game, he went a pawn up on the 37th move, and his rival made things easier for him by blundering a knight seven moves later. Mary, after playing Bird's Opening in her last two games with white, opted for a more common English Opening against Meenu Rajendran of the host.
