Cultural festival inaugurated

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry May 25 . The Lt. Governor of Pondicherry, K. R. Malkani, inaugurated the 16th annual cultural festival, Fete de Pondichery, organised jointly by the Department of Art and Culture (Pondicherry) and the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, at Gandhi Thidal here on Satruday.

He said Pondicherry was a cosmopolitan city encouraging cultures and linguistic features of various States. Holding the festival every year to bring cultural teams from other States and focussing their unique features was a welcome measure.

The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, referred to the impact the festivals left on people.

In the past, the festival was held for a few days from August 16, synchronising with the Liberation Day of Pondicherry.

But from last year, it had been advanced to May.

The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan spoke.
