Three persons in Karlapura are suspected to be suffering from dengue as the symptoms they reported were similar to those of the affected people in Sasuveghatta, Kumaraswamy, Additional Director (Communicable Diseases), Health and Family Welfare Department, said. Health officials, who conducted a survey of the place and adjoining villages, also found the presence of the mosquito vector, "Aedes aegypti", which is responsible for transmitting dengue, in Karlapura. "But it is not an epidemic situation and things are under control. The patients are being treated," he told The Hindu. Seven of the 17 blood samples of persons who contracted the illness in Sasuveghatta tested positive for dengue, health officials said. The samples were sent to Victoria Hospital for testing. These patients were recovering and those who had contracted the illness at Karlapura were being treated by doctors from the Hessarghatta Primary Health Centre, he said. Dr. Kumaraswamy said that tanks and open drains in Sasuveghatta and adjoining villages were clogged and had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The Health Department officials had taken steps to clean up the tanks and drains, he added.
