Nitty-gritty of MMTS reviewed

HYDERABAD May 10. The much-awaited Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) is now likely to be flagged off on August 15, according to the Minister of State for Railways, B. Dattatreya.

He told a press conference here on Saturday after undertaking a review of various issues pertaining to the SCR and the State Government that any other date suitable to AP would also be considered.

State Ministers T.Devender Goud, K.Vijayarama Rao and T. Srinivas Yadav attended the meeting along with the Hyderabad Collector, Rajeshwar Tiwari, the MCH Additional Commissioner, R.V.Chandravadan, and the city Police Commissioner, M.V.Krishna Rao, among others.

Mr. Dattatreya stated that road overbridges, MMTS and development works of the SCR were discussed at the meeting which was the first such undertaken after Stanley Babu took over as SCR General Manager.

The Minister disclosed that he had asked Mr. Babu to rebuild the old stations of the MMTS to match the new ones being constructed. Eight more rakes would be deployed for the second phase of the MMTS on the Secunderabad-Umdanagar route.

He said a proposal on a combined MMTS and APSRTC ticket was sent to the Railway Board. This ticket would enable a passenger to continue his journey after disembarking from an MMTS coach. The proposal was expected to be cleared before the MMTS launch.

A suggestion was made that the MMTS second phase should be extended to cover Medchal. For this a master plan is to be prepared and survey done at the earliest so as to increase the railway infrastructure.

The meeting, he said, after reviewing the ROBs in city decided that estimates of the structures at Kandikalgate and Tukaramgate should be prepared. In the case of ROBs and RUBs at Sitaphalmandi, Adikmet, Moulali and Hafizpet (which has been pending for long) there would be coordination meetings every month to remove bottlenecks, particularly those relating to land, and to expedite the works.

Mr. Stanley Babu stated that a survey would be undertaken to decide the priority for the completion of the ROBs/RUBs keeping the traffic needs. Nine to ten of them were likely to be accorded priority.

The meeting decided in principle to decongest the Secunderabad Railway Station and its adjoining areas. In this connection, the SCR GM, the city Police Commissioner and the MCH and R & B officials would inspect the areas like Bhoiguda.

They would also inspect the Chilkalguda area where the SCR is to set up a vent and the Tarnaka-Alugaddabai Road which is to be widened. Facilities like drainage and water required for the railway quarters would also be inspected and action taken to complete them.
