The officer-bearers of the association told presspersons that the association did not have the powers to control manufacturers. There were one or two "black sheep" in the industry, who were bringing a bad name to drug manufacturers and suppliers. One of the office-bearers said each industry had a large number of employees and even one member committing a mistake could bring a bad name to it. The association believed <243>that there were "unlicensed manufacturers'' contributing to the production of spurious drugs. They blamed the poor storage conditions in government hospitals and drug stores for the availability of spurious drugs in the State. Asked how the association planned to control the menace, they said a legislation being considered would help the situation. The President of the association, K.N. Subbaswami, and Secretary, Jatish Sheth, were present.
