Farewell to Jamwal

CHENNAI MAY 10. The General Officer Commanding, ATNKK & G Area, A.S. Jamwal, who has been transferred from Chennai to the Central Command in Lucknow, today said during his short tenure here he had improved training standards, besides initiating steps to improve the quality of life for all ranks of defence staff.

Addressing officers and other ranks at a farewell function here, Maj. Gen. Jamwal outlined the schemes of Assured Decent Last Rites, Sainik Guest Houses, Widows Welfare Scheme, Girls' Hostel Project, Pre-Care-Preventive Medical Check-up and medical clinics he had introduced. He said an Army School would commence its academic session during 2003-2004.

Later in an informal talk with presspersons, he spoke about his recent meeting with the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, and his briefing her about the welfare programmes for the widows of defence personnel and retirees.
