'U.S. has no evidence of French role'

Washington May 10. The U.S. State Department has said it does not have any information to confirm press reports that France supplied passports to Iraqi officials from Saddam Hussein's regime.

``We have made clear that we don't have any information that would indicate the French issued passports or visas to Iraqi officials,'' said the State Department spokesman, Richard Boucher, yesterday.

The House of Representatives Judiciary Commission Chairman, James Sensenbrenner, called Thursday for an investigation into a Washington Times report that France had helped Mr. Hussein's regime members fleeing Iraq.

France strongly denied. Mr. Boucher said the State Department had nothing ``that would substantiate the premise'' of an investigation.
