Sir, In a clean break with the past, Air India and the Government handled the recent pilots strike efficiently. The tough, no-nonsense posture resulted in the strike petering out. The management should also ensure that the glitches accumulated from the past due to their weak-kneed policy are now straightened. Due to the exorbitant cost involved in getting a commercial pilot licence, only persons from the rich upper strata of society are able to become pilots. This imbalance should be corrected by starting commercial pilots training schools and recruiting adequate number of pilots from all strata of society.
