Youth Cong. leader murdered

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR APRIL 24. The town president of the Youth Congress, B. Bhaskar Reddy (28), and his follower, Ramalinga Reddy (24), were allegedly murdered by the TDP Councillor of the Anantapur Municipal Council, P. Krishna, and his seven aides on the Gooty road here today.

According to the police, Bhaskar Reddy and his follower were on the way to the rice mill of the former on a two-wheeler when the TDP councillor and his men allegedly waylaid and attacked them. The two Congress men died on the spot.

They were followed in a four-wheeler which hit the two-wheeler from behind. The TDP councillor and his men allegedly pounced on the Congress men as they fell to the ground and attacked them with iron rods and boulders.

The police later picked up the TDP councillor and five of his associates from the former's house. Two others, who were allegedly involved in the killing, are at large. The TDP councillor, who is also the leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Council, is learnt to have sustained an injury on his hand during the attack.

The families of Bhaskar Reddy and Krishna had developed enmity since the last municipal elections. Bhaskar Reddy's father, who contested for the councillor seat, was defeated by Krishna. The two groups have been at loggerheads since then.

The police had seized unlicensed revolvers from Bhaskar Reddy and Krishna three months ago.

Condemning the killings, the DCC secretary, S. Jayachandra Naidu, demanded the removal of Krishna as leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Council. He alleged that the killings had once again proved that the law and order situation in the district was not good.

TDP leaders had been killing Congress activists one after the other and they were going scot-free, the Congress leader alleged.
