By Our Staff Reporter

WARANGAL APRIL 24. Two Janashakti naxalites were killed in an exchange of fire with the police at Kamalapur crossroads in Bhupalpalli mandal in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to the police, a police team was patrolling in the area on information that naxalites were moving in the village. The team encountered two persons speeding on a two-wheeler. They were asked to stop and disclose their identity. They stopped the vehicle and opened fire at the police before trying to flee the spot. The police, too, opened fire at them killing the two.

The deceased were identified as Sultan Veera Reddy alias Tirupathi (30), Janashakti (Rajanna) faction district committee secretary, and dalam member, Gaddam Sambaiah (25). The police seized a motor cycle, two 8 mm rifles, 9 live rounds of ammunition and four empty rounds.

The district committee secretary, Veera Reddy, was involved in three murder cases, Chelpur telephone exchange blast and damaged several STD booths in Chelpur. He allegedly used to harass businessmen and had collected over Rs. 2 crores.

The Superintendent of Police, Nalin Prabhat, in a statement, said that people of Bhupalpalli were feeling ``relieved over the death of Veera Reddy as he extorted money at gun point, making their life miserable''. The police would not keep quiet if anyone resorted to extortion. Naxalites should surrender to the police or face the consequences, he said.
