Kerala
By Our Special Correspondent
Mr. Andy Williams said the Humanist Movement had been extending support to local action groups engaged in developmental activities and had been able to build up a network of volunteers who earnestly wanted to promote peace and meaningful social interaction. The movement now has nearly 2.5 million volunteers in 104 countries. A majority of them are engaged in humanitarian activities at the grass-root level. Application for membership can be sent in the format available at the website www.awazofscotland.org.uk. The Humanist Movement had been growing even though it did not provide financial support to its members and their activities. ``We are interested in building human bonds not financial linkages .The goal of the Humanist Movement is building a universal human nation through non-violence '', Mr. Andy Williams said at a press conference today. He said in Kerala the movement had already got linked to a small group in Kochi which was engaged in providing education to the poor. The Calicut Rotaract Club would be adopting poor students of a Government school in Kozhikode the coming academic year under a joint community welfare programme undertaken with the support of the Humanitarian Movement, Prajesh Thiruthiyil, president, Calicut Rotaract Club, said at the press conference.
