Patient's death: negligence alleged

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE APRIL 24. A public grievance committee, set up following the death of a young woman, has alleged in a memorandum to the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, that the death of the patient occurred due to the negligence of the doctors at the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH).

The memorandum has named a particular doctor besides junior doctors for causing the death of Nisha (23), of Kunduparamba here because of the dereliction of duty of the doctors attending on her.

The allegation was that even the basic medication was not administered to the patients before the conduct of an operation on her. Following complications, the patient was shifted to the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), where she died. The family members had refused to conduct a post-mortem on the body of the deceased as they held the view that a post-mortem conducted at the Medical College Hospital may not bring out the true facts of the case.

The public committee has been formed with Chelannur grama panchayat president, M. P. Velayudhan, among others as members.
