Anti-war rally today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM April 24. The City Corporation is making hectic preparations for the anti-war rally to be held here on Friday morning. The rally is being organised by the Corporation, the district panchayat, other municipalities and block and gram panchayats in the district to condemn the attack on Iraq and the threat posed to world peace by the U.S.- British military axis. The rally will commence from the Museum Junction at 10 a.m. and conclude with a public meeting at the Tagore Centenary Hall. The organising committee said here today that thousands of citizens including women and children were expected to participate in the event.

The former Chief Ministers, E.K. Nayanar and K. Karunakaran, V.R. Krishna Iyer, the Local Administration Minister, Cherkalam Abdullah, and O.N.V. Kurup are among those scheduled to address the gathering.

A press release issued by the organising committee here today directed the district panchayat and the block and gram panchayats to mobilise their teams at the east gate of the museum near the police station. The rallyists mobilised by the municipalities are to gather on the Museum-Nandavanam Road while those from the city will assemble before the Corporation headquarters.
