Addressing presspersons here, he said the main objective of the policy was to provide houses and sites to the poor. A meeting of officials of the Revenue, Urban Development, Cooperation, and Forest departments would be convened soon to discuss the policy details. Proper coordination of these departments in the formulation and implementation of the policy was essential, he added. As many as 16,667 houses were ready for allotment to the needy in Gulbarga, Bidar, Bellary, Raichur, and Koppal, and 416 houses would be allotted in each Assembly constituency in these districts, he added. In 2003-04, under the Kuteera Jyothi programme, electricity connection for a single bulb would be provided to five lakh houses constructed and allotted under the Ashraya scheme, the Ambedkar Awas Yojana, and the Indira Awas Yojana. The Housing Department planned to launch a website to provide information on housing schemes. The Karnataka Housing Board had launched a website, the minister added. To a question on allotment of houses to migrants from Bangladesh under a government scheme, near the Cantonment Railway Station in Bangalore, Mr. Ahmed said he was not aware of it. However, he agreed to look into the matter. He said the State unit of Hudco had won the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Ashraya Yojana Award for the quality of houses constructed by it. The Union Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Ministry had given the award, he said, and thanked the Union minister, Ananth Kumar, for cooperating with the State Government in the implementation of housing schemes.
