This Day That Age
Mr. George V. Allen, U.S.-Ambassador posted to India in place of Mr. Chester Bowles, arrived in New Delhi on the 24th, and was received at the airport by the Chief of Protocol of the External Affairs Ministry, and officials of the U.S. Embassy. His wife and three children will join him in June. Mr. Allen told interviewers that he fully realised the significance of his appointment in American foreign relations. Asked if there would be any change in America's policy towards India, he said there had been no such indication during his consultations in Washington. Asked, "Will you continue the policy of your predecessor Mr. Bowles?" Mr. Allen replied, "People have to take me as I am. I will not follow anybody's footsteps..."
