New Delhi
By Devesh K. Pandey
On January 24, the accused Sub-Inspector Bahadur Singh and two others, Rajbir and Shyam Narain, forced their way into the Bhagat Singh Colony house of a 25-year-old woman when her two children were asleep and her husband was at his native place. The accused allegedly criminally assaulted her and fled from the scene. The local police registered a case against the three and arrested only one of them but did not act against Bahadur Singh, who had already been suspended from the Communications Division of the Delhi police for dereliction of duty. It is learnt that a couple of days ago the victim moved an application to Police Headquarters and other Government agencies alleging that Bahadur Singh has been threatening her to withdraw her complaint or "face the consequences''. According to her statement, Bahadur Singh forced her way into the house and threatened to kill her and frame charges against her supporters. ``He claimed that though there were other criminal cases against him, no one dared to touch him as he was a policeman and had good links with senior officers,'' said the complainant's husband, Pradeep Sharma. The victim alleged that she tried to get another case registered against Bahadur Singh in this regard but was discouraged by the local police. Suggesting that the threat was real, she alleged that SI Bahadur Singh has also been named in a case of murder in which a tenant was killed.
