Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Minister suggested to the CLP leader to organise the `Praja prasthanam padayatra' to Paragodu project demanding stoppage of the construction, as the project, if constructed, would deny irrigation sources to the Pulivendula Assembly constituency and about 750 and odd drinking water schemes taken up by Sri Satya Sai Baba trust would also become defunct. "If he (YSR) has any concern for the Rayalaseema region in general and his Pulivendula constituency in particular, he should convince the Karnataka Chief Minister to stop Paragodu project'', he said pointing out that the people of the entire Rayalaseema region would express their gratitude if the illegal construction of the project is stopped. Besides, the CLP leader would also get the credit of ensuring water to the Rayalaseema," he added. Asked about the SRSP Flood Flow canal, Mr. Srihari said that they had secured CWC clearances for the flood flow canal and the SRSP Stage-II projects and planning for the financial tie-up for the early completion of the projects. He also said that they had sent proposals to the Centre for the CWC clearances for the execution of Godavari lift irrigation project, Kalwakurthy, Yellampalli, Alisagar and Gutpa irrigation projects. He said that they had allocated Rs. 65 crores in the current budget for the flood flow canal and added that works to tune of Rs. 100 crores could be grounded during this year. Stating that the work was progressing fast with all clearances got, including the settlement of land acquisition, he also exuded with confidence that the canal earthwork would be completed in Nizamabad district and enter Karimnagar district during this financial year. With regard to the SRSP stage-I, he said that the Government had mobilised Rs. 1,787 crore loans which included Rs. 1,260 under the AP-III project and Rs. 527 crores under AIBP scheme. The SRSP stage-I if completed by June 2004, would ensure an ayacut of 9.68 lakh acres in Karimnagar, Warangal, Adilabad and Nizamabad districts. Out of which, about 5.42 lakh acres would be in Karimnagar district.
