Doctor couple to be honoured

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI April 23. The Maharashtra Government, which ridiculed and rejected a report by a doctor couple, Abhay and Rani Bang, on malnutrition deaths among tribal children last year, today decided to honour them with its highest award, Maharashtra Bhushan.

The UNICEF and the World Health Organisation have acknowledged the good work of the couple which works among the adivasis in gadchiroli district, according to the Chief Minister, Sushilkumar Shinde.

But Mr. Shinde said, ``I do not know anything about the report on child deaths.''

``If someone is critical of the Government, it does not mean we should not honour him. I am not going to withdraw this nomination.''
