Officials of the Health Department confirmed that more than 180 persons had undergone treatment for diarrhoea from Kuttanad after the onset of summer. The department had confirmed yesterday that they had detected three cases of cholera in the region. The disease was detected in Champakkulam panchayat in Kuttanad. Meanwhile, the officials of the virology laboratory at the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital today said that the coliform count in the water supplied through the public taps in Kuttanad was found to be over 1,300. This is several times more than the safe level. Though the health authorities pointed out that the failure of the public to use boiled water and unhygienic practices were responsible for the present outbreak, the fact remains that the State Government.
