LONDON: Andre the seal has been given a fishing permit, complete with photograph, to allow him to catch salmon in Scotland's River Leven and protect him from the wrath of the local angling community, British press reports said on Tuesday. Anglers had threatened to shoot the three-year-old grey seal, which is also known as Salty, after attempts to catch him and remove him to the salt water environs of Fife failed. Andre has been accused by anglers of stealing salmon stocks worth thousands of dollars. But local pressure, aided by the national and local press, resulted in the issue of permit 999, which is valid until October 31. DPA
