MCH standing panel okays marginal hike in rent

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD April 22. As expected, the Standing Committee of the MCH stuck to its stand and confirmed the revision of rent to shops at the Hari Hara Kala Bhavan at the rate of Rs. 8 per sft as against the corporation's proposal to hike it to Rs. 14.

There were nine members present at today's meeting. Of them, MIM and Congress members supported the decision to peg the hike at Rs. 8, while TDP and BJP corporators remained noncommittal. Officials refused to comment on fixation of rent and said it was for the Commissioner to decide.

As regards revision of rents of mulgies at Koti, the standing panel felt that the corporation had not furnished proper details about the original allottees. It was resolved to defer the matter to the next meeting.

The committee gave administrative sanction for construction of a bridge behind the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, up to the Indira Gandhipuram in Fathenagar. The bridge, estimated to cost Rs. 40 lakhs, would lead to reduction in distance by 8 km.

The committee also considered a letter written by the Sanathnagar MLA, Sripathi Rajeshwar, in this connection. The Kukatpally Municipality was requested to share the project cost on equal basis since one end of the bridge would come under its jurisdiction.

The panel approved the construction of a stormwater drain from the Guddimalkapur vegetable market to Heera Nagar at a cost of Rs. 28.43 lakhs. Residents of the locality were stated to be facing a lot of nuisance due to bad smell from garbage and mosquitoes as the open nala had been flowing through Guddimalkapur.

It was also resolved to lay a BT road from the Gandhi statue at Puranapul to the Prakash Talkies in Manghalhat as the present road is worn out in many places. The committee approved the proposal, which is estimated to cost Rs. 25 lakhs.

Further, the standing panel expressed concern at the loss of revenue to the corporation on account of Internet providers and cable operators. They were using streetlight poles of the MCH to lay their cables. The meeting resolved to discuss the matter in detail at its next meeting.
