The interim direction was issued by Justice K.K. Dinesan on a writ petition filed by the company challenging the resolutions of the Perumatty panchayat to refuse renewal of the licence for its bottling plant. The company had also been issued a notice asking it to `show cause' why the licence should not be cancelled. It had been granted time till April 24 to respond to the notice. The petition also challenged the notice issued by the panchayat. The panchayat had decided not to renew the licence on the ground that there was over-exploitation of ground water in the area. The licence had expired on March 31. The court also granted time for submitting an explanation till May 1 and directed the panchayat to consider the explanation in two weeks. The interim order will remain in force till May 16.
