"It is our duty to safeguard the cow," the Chief Minister said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of "Bhagwat Katha" organised by Pandit Kamal Kishorenagar at Maheshwar in the district yesterday. Maintaining that "Gau Seva" was the greatest work, Singh said that for this the state government has set up a "Gau seva aayog", an official release said today. He said the Madhya Pradesh government has been providing Rs 2 crores annually for the gaushalas in the state where cows were being preserved systematically. Singh said that during the last nine years there was continuous increase in the number of gau shalas in the state and arrangement for sufficient fodder was being carried out for them even after drought condition prevailing in the state this year. He also assured the people of Maheshwar that the state government would soon allot land for construction of a `gau shala' there and announced to provide Rs 11 lakhs for the purpose. PTI
