Owing to the tremendous heat due to the fire which broke out at 5 am today, fire fighters could not enter the basement floors of Satyanarayan Park market, Fire Services director general Balkar Singh told PTI. Water was being used to cool down the overheated floors and holes had been bored into the walls of the basement to let the smoke out, Singh said. The process would continue throughout the night, he said, adding that at least 22 fire engines had been pressed into service to bring the fire under control. It was estimated that goods worth several lakhs of rupees had been destroyed in the fire. No one was, however, injured in the fire, fire services sources said adding the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. PTI
