Maharashtra
By Our Legal Correspondent
On April 1, a Bench comprising Justice S. Rajendra Babu and Justice G.P. Mathur directed implementation of the interim measure as agreed in the minutes of the meeting held between the parties on March 28. As the interim measure had not been implemented, the Samithi filed an application seeking release of water. The Attorney General, Soli Sorabjee, who has been appointed amicus curiae in the case, today submitted before the Bench that it was unfortunate that Maharashtra after agreeing to release the quantity of water in a meeting between the representatives of Maharashtra, Karnataka and the Central Water Commission later disputed the minutes of the meeting saying it never committed 200 cusecs. He said as per the minutes of the meeting, Maharashtra was to release 200 cusecs of water to Karnataka as an interim measure and the same was conveyed to the court on April 1. The Bench then issued notice to Maharashtra and posted the case for further hearing on Friday.
