Photography exhibition opens

HYDERABAD April 18. The annual photography exhibition of the Andhra Pradesh Photographic Society has once again brought out the talent of its members.

The exhibition, with over 80 photographs and slides at the Art Gallery of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, was inaugurated by the president, AP State Academy of Photography, C. Srinivasa Sastry, here on Friday.

Impressive array of photographs in monochrome and colour, relating to nature, people, landscapes, wildlife, birds and insects and tribals were on display. Mr. Sastry said the Society, by promoting the art and science of photography and conducting workshops and outings for photo opportunities, was helping the members, including retired people, to show their creativity and teaching them nuances of the subject. He said he would strive to get a permanent venue for the academy to enable the members to hold exhibitions.

The secretary of the Society, S. Balaram, said monthly competitions were also being held for about 180 of its members to motivate them. One of the judges, K. Viswendar Reddy, suggested that new and senior members should be evaluated separately at the competition to encourage junior members.

The entries for the annual exhibition were judged by G. Ramanuja Rao, P. Dasaratha Kumar and K. Viswender Reddy of the ARPS. The following are the award winners: S. Balaram in B&W section and nature print section, P.V. Ramarao in colour section, S.K. Prasad in nature slide. K.V. Ramudu, T. Srinivasa Reddy, K. Ashok, K. Subramanyam, S.V.S. Rao and Pulak Halder won merit certificates for their entries. An invitation exhibition by T. Srinivasa Reddy was also held on the occasion.
