They are the Davis Cuppers Harsh Mankad and Vishal Uppal besides the 19-year-old Prakash Amritraj. They, along with Rohan Bopanna, present the new face of the Indian Davis Cup team and deserve their spots in the main draw of the event, which has a high cut off of 259 and naturally, there are no Indians in the direct acceptance list. Jon van Lottum of the Netherlands, ranked 106, is the top seed. The wild cards in doubles also went to Indian pairs. Vishal Uppal and Harsh Mankad, Rohan Bopanna and partner (Bopanna has not yet decided on his teammate). The other talented Indians, including Ajay Ramaswamy, Vijay Kannan, Sunil Kumar Sipaeya and Mustafa Ghouse, would have to slug their way through the qualifying rounds, which will be played on Saturday and Sunday. There is a possibility that a couple of them may get wild cards for the next leg to be held in Delhi. For the qualifying rounds, Somdev K. Varman and Karan Rastogi have been awarded the wild cards. There will be three more Challengers in Karnataka later this year. They are scheduled to be conducted by the KSLTA at Tumkur (starting September 29), Karwar (October 6) and Belgaum (October 13). All these venues would have new synthetic courts for the events.
