Arrangements complete for entrance exams

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM April 18. Arrangements are complete for the conduct of the entrance examinations for admission to the professional colleges in the State in the next academic year.

The entrance test for the engineering courses will be held on April 22 and 23 and that for the medical and agricultural courses on April 24 and 25.

The tests are to be conducted at 124 centres in the 14 district headquarters and also at the Senior Secondary School of the Ke rala Education Society in New Delhi. The architecture aptitude test is to be held at 34 centres in the afternoon of April 23.

Admit cards have already been despatched to all the eligible candidates. Those who have not yet received the admit cards should report to the district liaison officer concerned, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on April 21 and obtain identification certificate. However, candidates from Idukki district should obtain their identification certificate from the Higher Secondary School, Thodupuzha. Candidates with roll numbers from 39061 to 39420 should appear for the test at the Baker Memorial Girls' Higher Secondary School, Kottayam.

As many as 61,408 applications were received this time for the entrance tests in different ca tegories. Owing to various reaso ns, 262 applications were reject ed. For the engineering cours es, 54.51 per cent of applicants are boys. However, for the medical courses, 60.10 per cent are g irls. There is an increase of 6,087 applicants (11 per cent) this time, compared to the last year. In the number of candidates appearing for both the streams also there is an increase of 18.40 per cent. The number of candidates making a second or subsequent appearance is 10,047.

The highest number (9,851) of candidates is from Thiruvananthapuram district, with Ernakulam (8,402) and Thrissur (7,206) in the second and third place respectively. The lowest number (599) is from Wayanad.
