Police avert PMK-DPI clash

By Our Special Correspondent

CUDDALORE APRIL.18. A major clash between activists of the Pattali Makkal Katchi and Dalit Panthers of India was averted at Thambipettai near Kurinjipadi this morning, following timely police intervention.

According to police, miscreants disfigured a hoarding put up by the DPI activists in the Dalit Colony last night. Suspecting that the mischief was the handiwork of PMK activists, the DPI men went to the village and allegedly damaged a PMK flag-mast and a hoarding put up by the party there.

Following an altercation between the two groups, the PMK men resorted to a roadroko.

As tension was building up, a police team led by the Neyveli DSP, Murugiah, persuaded the PMK activists to give up the protest. Police pickets were posted in the area.
