IBM leads in commercial desktop — IDC

NEW DELHI APRIL 18. IBM claimed today that it had become the number one company in India in commercial desktop and notebook computers with its NetVista desktop and ThinkPad notebook computers holding larger market share in the last quarter of 2002.

Quoting the quarterly PC tracker report of analyst firm IDC, an IBM release said IBM's NetVista gained 1.6 percentage points in unit market share and increased market share by 1.1 percentage points.

"IBM led the commercial desktop market in terms of unit shipments with 8.2 per cent market share and the notebook segment in terms of revenue with 31.4 per cent share in the just concluded Q4 of 2002," the release said.

"A major reason IBM gained share over the competition is our focus on technology and innovation to help the customers address real business issues," Alok Ohrie, president, personal computing division, was quoted as saying. — PTI
